In altri contesti, to affect può anche significare “fingere di avere o provare”: He sat there, affecting an air of nonchalance, si sedette lì, fingendo un'aria di indifferenza.Il sostantivo effect significa in primo luogo “effetto, risultato, conseguenza”: the effects of drugs on the body, gli effetti delle droghe sul corpo; The increases will take effect in January, gli aumenti avranno effetto in gennaio. Come verbo effect si usa più raramente e in contesti formali, col significato “compiere, portare a termine, causare”: the reforms effected by the previous government, le riforme portate a termine dal precedente governo.
